Who doesn’t love a good Chinese meal? Hot on the heels of Chinese New Year last week, Jamie Walker takes a tour of the top ten Chinese restaurants in Brighton and Hove according to TripAdvisor.
Danny’s
Portland Road, Hove
The top-rated Chinese restaurant in the city, Danny’s has been a staple in the Hove community for those looking for top notch food.
Since opening in 2008 – a relatively new restaurant compared with some on this list – Danny’s has become an established location when it comes to Chinese for eating in or taking away.
TripAdvisor reviewer Claire Simmons said: “Have been to Danny’s many times with both family and friends and can easily say we love it.
“The food is always hot from the kitchen, always good service so couldn’t fault it.
“In fact I’ve been twice since Christmas.”
China Garden
Preston Street, Brighton
A popular location for people looking for good Chinese food, the fact that China Garden has been around for 30 years should tell you all you need to know about how good it is.
Well known for its dim sum and sharing dishes, this is a great location to take a big party of people for a good meal.
James A said: “It’s really difficult to find places these days with such attention to detail.
“This place was a real discovery and I hope to eat there again soon.”
Gars
Prince Albert Street, Brighton
Another longstanding establishment in the city, Gars has been feeding hungry Brightonians since 1983 and shows no signs of slowing down.
Set over three floors, there is plenty of room to eat in this restaurant, although it may not look it upon first walking in.
Neil said: “To say the food is exceptional doesn’t do it justice, it is undoubtedly the best Chinese food I have ever tasted and I’ve been visiting restaurants for 45 years.
“The staff were friendly and attentive and gave us very useful suggestions.
“We weren’t hurried at all and were probably there for over two hours.”
Noodles Soup
West Street, Brighton
If you like authentic Asian food, especially soups and broths, then this is the place to go.
Not shy about portion sizes, and with meat and vegetarian dishes of excellent quality, Noodles is a brilliant place to stop for lunch or – given its location – after a night out.
Christine said: “I loved every bite of it.
“Really authentic and delicious.
“The soups are great and reasonable prices.”
Good Friends
Preston Street, Brighton
This is another great spot for family dining and one that is usual busy.
Andrew said: “I was originally from Hong Kong and would rate the restaurant as among the top five per cent in the UK when it comes to Cantonese dishes.
“The Chinese barbecue meat is exceptional.”
China China
Preston Street, Brighton
You would think that with so many Chinese restaurants Preston Street would have a few that don’t hit the mark – but that doesn’t appear to be the case.
China China is another popular eaterie but while reviews are good on average a quick glance shows the last few haven’t been so impressive – but judge for yourself.
Hins Restaurant
Church Road, Hove
A warm and cosy Chinese restaurant in the heart of Hove, Hins has been around for years and despite new managers in that time it has kept the same high standards.
Gayemarie said: “The sizzling dishes are great and they have a lovely taster and lunch menu which is good value.”
Beijing House
Queen’s Road, Brighton
If you walk to the station a lot you will have spotted Beijing House.
This small spot is rated higher star wise than a lot of others on this list – the caveat being it has only had 14 reviews – so it is worth checking out.
Bon Appetit
North Street, Brighton
It says a lot about the quality of Chinese food at this restaurant that it makes the top ten while also serving pizza and pasta.
Snoopy said: “The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, the staff were attentive and polite and for the price we had a decent buffet meal.”
