In today’s Timeout we take a look back at the life of famed songwriter Norman Newell. Although born in Plaistow, Norman spent a lot of time in Sussex and died here in 2004. He worked with many famous recording artists.
Songwriter Norman Newell took a lot of inspiration from the Sussex seaside in his song writing. Norman worked with big names such as Vera Lynn and Bette Midler.
As you can see, Norman worked closely with Dame Vera Lynn as well as prolific composer Geoff Love.
He also wrote a number of songs with Shirley Bassey
German actress and singer Marlene Dietrich was also a big fan of Norman’s work and the pair frequently spent time together working on material.
