WELL love is in the air and Valentine’s Day is upon us.

So happy Valentine’s Day one and all, it gives the county and indeed the nation the chance to thank partners, parents and children for the love they give us all year round.

It is of course easy to be cynical about days like this, with many citing it as little more than a commercial enterprise, which of course it is.

However, it gives a major boost to businesses with hundreds of thousands of cards, roses and boxes of chocolates being purchased and not just from the big conglomerates, but the small companies which rely so heavily on days like this.

Sadly, there is also a tacky element to some of the gifts, but a well chosen card with a sincere message is almost inevitably well received by the recipient.

The important thing is to ensure that those messages will remain valid for the rest of the year too, not merely for 24 hours.

Today’s Argus also features some advice on finding love and maintaining romance from Sussex’s very own “Love Doctor” so perhaps we should all take heed of his well meaning words of wisdom.

We also carry an article about a restaurant which has been voted the most romantic in the county.

It is no doubt all booked up for tonight, but for those who haven’t booked a table weeks in advance, fret not.

As the Love Doctor sagely observes with his advice... romance should flourish whatever the time of year.

So why not go rogue and take your loved one out for a really special meal with a glass of wine or two tomorrow night instead.
