A MAN climbed onto a roof in a town centre.
Police and fire services attended the incident in Bridge Street, Newhaven.
Officers arrived at about 10.15am.
The surrounding area was cordoned off as Police spoke with the 21-year-old.
Pictures on social media showed the man standing on the roof wearing a dark hoodie and using his mobile phone.
A Newhaven resident, who did not want to be named, said: "He has been up there for hours, since this morning.
"There are police and fire services everywhere and the road is blocked off.
"You can see he is making phone calls."
At the time, a Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police are currently at a property in Bridge Street, Newhaven, due to a man sitting on a roof.
“The road has been closed while officers speak to the man. The incident is ongoing.”
The man has now got down from the roof.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: "A 21-year-old man who had been on the roof of a block of flats in Bridge Street, Newhaven since 10.15am on Thursday, February 14, after police officers attended the address, came down peacefully just before 3.30pm after talking to officers.
"Nobody was hurt.
"He has been arrested on suspicion of public order offences
"The road was closed while officers spoke to the man."
