REPORTS of a stranger approaching children in a car have led police to step up their patrols.

In an email which has been shared on social media, Lindfield Primary Academy warned parents.

It said it had received information that a number of children had been approached by a white middle-aged man in sunglasses.

It said he was in his car, a black Ford S-Max with a taxi sign on the roof, in the Black Hill area of Haywards Heath.

It urged parents to be “extra vigilant” and alert their children about the “potential danger”.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “Police are aware of this report and information has been passed to the local prevention team for investigation.

“Officers have increased patrols in the area, however at this stage there is no evidence of any offences being committed by anyone. Officers have also engaged with the informant and advice has been given.”
