THE date of March 29 looms ever closer and still there is no solution in sight.

Yes, we are talking about Brexit and despite all the rhetoric the United Kingdom is moving steadily closer to the prospect of a “no deal” exit from the European Union.

However, Hove and Portslade Labour MP Peter Kyle has come up with a potential solution of his own which seems eminently sensible, even though it is unlikely to be implemented.

The details of Mr Kyle’s proposals are outlined in Ivor Gaber’s analytical opinion piece on the right.

Some will agree with his views and some won’t, that is the nature of the entire Brexit debate which has led to so much rancour and continues to do so.

What is needed is reasoned debate to ensure an outcome that is as good as it possibly can be not just for Sussex, but for the entire United Kingdom.

The prospect of a “no deal” Brexit is a frightening one which could have a hugely negative impact on businesses both large and small.

Tit-for-tat political squabbles are achieving nothing as the increasingly embattled Prime Minister Theresa May attempts to get a deal through Parliament which will be acceptable to both MPs and the European Union.

It is certainly not going to be easy. Everyone, regardless of political persuasion, knows that.

But Mr Kyle and indeed Brighton Pavilion MP Caroline Lucas, who has been listening to the views of those who voted to leave in the refendum to gain as broad a perspective as possible as the clock ticks down, must both be applauded for their efforts.
