ANYONE with a young child will know they love to try to push the trolley in supermarkets.

Unfortunately the size of the trolleys can make things potentially hazardous.

Now, one chain is ensuring little ones can have some fun while staying safe during the weekly shop.

Lidl has introduced new “fun size” trolleys which children will be able to push around UK stores, including here in Brighton.

The trolleys will be wheeled out – pun intended – to more than 250 Lidl stores across the country.

The announcement comes following a successful trial of the trolleys last year.

Lidl said the move showed its commitment to “engaging children in the food shop and healthy eating”.

Engaging

Ryan McDonnell, commercial director at Lidl UK, said: “We are constantly looking for new ways to make shopping more fun and engaging for kids.

“We’re keen to help parents build their children’s understanding of what they eat, and we hope that our new fun size trolleys will encourage kids to play a bigger part in the family shop.”

All the new children’s trolleys will be named after items in the Lidl Oaklands fun size range – miniature versions of regular fruit and vegetables launched in 2016 to get children eating more healthily.

Products in the range include broccoli trees and unicorn carrots.

The new little trolleys will have their own special bays, and will all come with a flag to stop children getting lost and a clip board to help with a shopping list.
