TWO elderly women suffered serious injuries in a car crash.

A black Volkswagen Golf and a silver Ford Focus crashed on Saturday, at about 3.10pm, near the roundabout junction of South Street, near Haywards Heath.

Two passengers in the Focus, an 85-year-old woman and an 81-year-old woman, both from Haywards Heath, were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, with serious injuries.

Both are still being treated.

The driver of the Focus, an 80-year-old woman from Wivelsfield Green, was taken to the same hospital for treatment.

She sustained minor injuries and was later discharged.

The driver of the VW, a 25-year-old man, and his passenger, a 21-year-old woman, both from Burgess Hill, sustained minor injuries.

Neither required hospital treatment.

The road was closed for two hours while the incident was dealt with.

Sussex Police thanked the motorists whose journeys were disrupted for their patience.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or noticed either vehicle being driven shortly before the crash.

Dash-cam footage would also be welcome.
