A MAN was found by police with both hands down his trousers after crashing twice while three times over the drink-drive limit.

Police attended Queens Road in Hastings at about 9.23pm after reports of a suspected drink-driver parked there.

Officers saw Valentine Mitjajev, 33, exit a nearby kebab shop and get into a black Mercedes S350, but when they approached the vehicle he reversed fast into a parked car.

He then sped away and, after being chased by police, crashed into the railings of Alexandra Park.

Mitjajev ran away and police carried out a search of the area, finding him with both hands down his trousers.

When an officer ordered him to show his hands he lunged at, and assaulted, him.

He then ran away again, but was caught shortly afterwards.

Mitjajev, who is unemployed and of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with driving with 113mcg of alcohol per 100ml breath in his system, assaulting a police officer, driving while disqualified, and driving without insurance.

At Lewes Crown Court on February 7, he was sentenced to a total of 15 months in jail and was banned from driving for three years and seven-and-a-half months from the date of his release.

He was also ordered to pay a £140 victim surcharge.
