A body has been found at a train station in Eastbourne.

British Transport Police, an Incident Response Unit and a private ambulance were called to Hampden Park Station, in Mallard Close at about 7.50am on Saturday. 

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said they have not identified the person or the nature of the incident.

The train line between Lewes and Eastbourne was closed. Trains ran from Brighton to Polegate only.

Disruption lasted until 1pm. 

While emergency services were dealing with the incident, Southern Railway issued a press release which said: "The emergency services are dealing with an incident near Hampden Park Station.

"As a result of this, trains between Lewes / Hastings and Eastbourne will be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

"Southern ticket holders are permitted to travel at no extra cost with the following operators; Brighton and Hove Buses on route 12 between Brighton and Eastbourne and Southeastern between Hastings and London Charing Cross."

Rail replacement buses will operate between the following stations: Polegate, Hampden Park and Eastbourne.

Buses will also run between Pevensey and Westham, Pevensey Bay, Normans Bay, Cooden Beach, Collington andBexhill.
