THE county’s favourite breakfast radio team is set for the chop.

Global, which owns Heart Sussex and Capital Brighton, is replacing 14 of its breakfast shows with just one, broadcast from London starting on April 8.

It is also shutting its offices at Radio House in Franklin Road, Portslade.

It’s not yet been confirmed whether popular trio Tom, Nicola and Jack will lose their jobs.

This comes after radio watchdog Ofcom dropped some of its strict rules on broadcasting local content.

Capital Brighton, previously known as Juice FM, will merge with radio station South Coast and move to Fareham.

Both Heart and Capital Brighton lose their own drivetime shows as well.

Ashley Tabor, founder and executive president of Global, said the move would help it compete with BBC Radio 1 and 2.

He told RadioToday: “Whilst the new deregulation will mean some significant changes at an operational level, these bold steps enable Global to lead the way in launching the UK’s three largest national commercial radio breakfast shows.

“We’re really excited to combine the best national talent with our unique ability to include great local content in network shows on Heart, Capital and Smooth.”

Capital launched in Brighton last September.
