THREE football fans were arrested after alleged homophobic abuse.

The arrests were made during the game between Brighton and Hove Albion and Leicester City FC last night (Tuesday).

A spokeswoman from Leicestershire Police confirmed the arrests and said: “Three men were arrested.

"They were dealt with by restorative justice.”

The game was played at the King Power Stadium in Leicester.

Leicestershire Police Events, a police Twitter account for football, events safety and travel information, posted the information on its social media page.

It said: “Three people were arrested at the game last night following allegations of homophobic abuse.

“Bans will now be imposed by the respective clubs.

“A reminder that any behaviour of this nature will not be tolerated at the King Power Stadium.”

This is not the first time this behaviour has been seen when the two sides have met.

In 2017, 44-year-old Leicester City supporter Jason Holmes was fined £300 for chanting homophobic abuse at Albion fans.

He admitted the offence and voluntarily attended an educational session by the Kick it Out campaign, which aims to prevent discrimination in football.
