SCHOOLS across Sussex are holding special events today to celebrate World Book Day.
This is the 22nd year of the global event and children of all ages will be taking part in the celebration of books, authors and illustrators.
Every year, school pupils dress up as their favourite characters and share their favourite books.
World Book Day, which is a registered charity, is organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
It is on a mission to encourage every young person to enjoy the pleasure of reading.
The charity works with schools across the country to distribute more than 15 million £1 World Book Day book tokens to children and young people.
It means almost every under-18 in the UK and Ireland get a token to put towards a book of their choice.
Last year, children had the opportunity to meet actor, comic and writer Adrian Edmondson at Brighton’s Theatre Royal. The venue was hosting the Biggest Book Show On Earth to celebrate World Book Day.
Pupils had their books signed by the Young Ones star.
Illustrators and authors who also attended the event included Pamela Butchart, Kes Gray, Jim Field, Liz Pichon and Holly Smale.
The Argus will be visiting some schools in Brighton and Hove to take pictures of their World Book Day celebrations.
We are also asking parents to send in their pictures.
If you wish to send in your World Book Day pictures, use the link below.
Please include the name, age, and school of your child and the character they are dressed as.
