A SINGLE mother who had to stop her car to deal with her diabetic daughter’s medical emergency has been given a £340 parking fine

Taryn Norris, from Firle Road in Brighton, was driving to her sister’s home in Newhaven when six-year-old Danielle became violently ill in the back seat.

Danielle has type one diabetes and Ms Norris knew she was experiencing seriously low blood sugar.

She rushed into the car park next to Greggs in Coast Road, Peacehaven, to buy some food for her.

The 30-year-old said: “Little Danielle was throwing up and she was feeling so poorly I had to just pull over where I could and run in to buy something sugary for her from Greggs.

“It was my only option.

“And OK, I didn’t park in a specific bay, but where I did park wasn’t obstructing anyone and it was an emergency.

“It was honestly a matter of life or death and I was so worried for her.”

Ms Norris said on her way back from her sister’s, she had to pull into the same car park a second time.

Danielle, who goes to Queen’s Park Primary in Park Street, Brighton, fell ill again and her mother needed to buy more food and drink to bring her sugar levels up.

She said: “She was throwing up in the car and the second time it was coming out the other end and I had to pull over for her.”

A few days later Ms Norris received a £340 fine for two parking tickets she was given only 30 minutes apart – each one covering the time she parked her car next to Greggs.

She said: “I just think it’s absolutely disgusting what they have done.

“I tried to appeal against these parking tickets but they have just decided to completely ignore my situation.

“They said they didn’t care my little six-year-old was ill and they just want my money.”

Ms Norris said she has little sleep due to regularly checking on Danielle’s sugar levels throughout the night, and the parking tickets have made her feel stressed and furious.

She said: “I can literally prove to them my situation and what happened that day and they just don’t want to hear anything of it.

“They simply don’t care about individual problems.

“I once had to drive down a bus lane to be able to get to the hospital for Danielle.

“I certainly didn’t get fined hundreds of pounds for that.

“I don’t understand why these people won’t even consider talking to me about it.”

ZZPS Limited, the company which owns the car park, did not respond to requests for a comment.
