A MAN was arrested for carrying a knife and balaclava at Brighton railway station.
Police were out in force on Saturday night as part of a nationwide crackdown on knife crime.
They had set up a scanner at the station and were checking passengers at the main entrance.
One man was found to be carrying a blade and a mask and was taken into custody.
One passenger, Laurence England, said: "Just experienced a vision of future travel security at Brighton station.
"The public are being screened as they leave."
It comes at the end of a week-long operation which saw mobile amnesty bins set up for people to hand in their weapons.
Police also visited schools to educate youngsters about the danger of carrying knives.
