SEAGULLS fans were flying high last night as Albion booked their place in the FA Cup semi finals after a dramatic comeback against Millwall.

Brighton were 2-0 down with two minutes to go and seemed to be heading out of the competition.

But they kept fighting and scored two late goals, their last-gasp equaliser leading to extra time and a nail-biting shoot-out.

Penalties got off to the worst possible start when Glenn Murray smacked his shot against the bar.

But goalkeeper Maty Ryan was the hero as he saved with his feet to deny Mahlon Romeo.

It went all the way to sudden death, when Millwall’s Jake Cooper blazed over to hand the Seagulls a place in the last four.

But reaching the final will not be easy after Brighton drew Premier League champions Manchester City.

Lifelong Albion supporter and chairman of the Falmer For All campaign Paul Samrah said: “It was just extraordinary. Football never ceases to amaze. It was nerve-wracking watching the penalties and at one point I didn’t think we could make it. I suppose being a Brighton fan you think the worst sometimes.

“It was very tense but once we equalised the momentum was always on Brighton’s side.

“We should have had a third goal but in the end the good guys won.

“Millwall threw away their 2-0 lead, but this has happened to Brighton twice this season.”

Argus chief sports reporter Andy Naylor said: “I thought I had seen everything in 25 years covering Albion, but this tops the lot.

“They were dead and buried at 2-0 down with two minutes of normal time remaining. They were behind in the penalty shoot-out as well until a crucial save from Mathew Ryan.

“Nobody wanted to draw Manchester City in the semi finals, but anything feels possible after this great escape.”

Jubilant fans reacted to the win on social media.

One fan posted on Twitter: “Bloody hell Albion, I’m shattered from all the emotions. Rollercoaster game doesn’t cover it. Didn’t play well, didn’t get the calls from the ref, but deserved that late bit of luck.”

“We’ll need a miracle in the semis vs Man City.

“But who cares right now? We’re going to Wembley!”

Another fan, Martin Fitzgerald, posted: “Pressure is off. Let’s all go up to London and enjoy the day and then who knows?

“There have been bigger shocks in football. It’s just a fantastic time to be an Albion supporter.”
