A CASH-STRAPPED worker tried to stash a kilo of cannabis at a depot to make a fast buck, a court head.

William Benning, Kalvin Cullinane, and Charlotte Aynsley were caught out over their links to the drugs in Crawley.

Benning and his girlfriend Aynsley were stopped by police, who later found drugs in her bedroom which had been stuffed into money bags.

Benning had also stashed a kilo of the class B drug at the depot of his workplace, Bon Appetit in Crawley, but staff there noticed the strong smell.

After finding a fingerprint on that cannabis, police later raided the home of Kalvin Cullinane.

He was found to be in possession of 500 grams of cannabis with intent to supply.

Opportunity

The trio were spared jail after admitting their offences at Lewes Crown Court last week.

Tim Forster, prosecuting, said: “Benning saw an opportunity to buy a kilo of cannabis after having money troubles.

“He thought he could sell it as a whole to a single individual for a small profit.”

He said Benning, 31, of Callisto Close, Crawley, had paid £5,000, in the hope of making £5,500.

Benning admitted possessing the drugs with the intent to supply.

Meanwhile Aynsley, 21, of Poplar Close, Crawley, admitted possessing 100 grams of cannabis in her bedroom.

Judge Christine Henson QC imposed a ten-month suspended prison sentence on Benning and ordered him to complete 170

hours of unpaid work, and ten rehabilitation sessions.

Cullinane, 19, of Titmus Drive, Crawley was handed a nine-month suspended prison sentence.

He must complete 140 hours of unpaid work,

and 20 rehabilitation sessions.

Aynsley was fined £300.
