BACK in 2014/15, the controlling Green administration on Brighton and Hove City Council committed this city to the so-called Valley Gardens Scheme (“This scheme is utter madness,” The Argus March 21) and also committed the council to spending more than £36 million on the now lossmaking i360 tower.
It is therefore galling to see the Green councillors trying to backtrack on these two serious and expensive mistakes, they even try to blame some of the Labour councillors.
Some people might argue that the current Labour administration, which was elected in May 2015 after the Greens lost 12 of their councillors, should have managed these two issues in a better way, though to be fair they seem to have inherited both of these “poisoned chalices” from the Greens.
Once the facts are checked, it is clear that it was the Green councillors together with many Tory councillors who made the decisions to spend vast amounts on these schemes, usually in secret and often with the absolute minimum of consultation.
It is about time that the Greens apologised for the mess that they have left behind.
