COULD your dog be one of the stars of the upcoming musical production of a family favourite show?

One theatre company are hosting “Dog Idol” auditions as they search for a canine with classic theatre in their blood.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of a beloved movie, Brighton Theatre Group has been chosen as one of just a handful of groups across the UK to perform a stage adaptation of the smash hit Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

“Chitty” is being put on by specially selected theatre groups across the country.

The cast and producers are looking for an Old English Sheep Dog, who will take up the roll of the Potts family dog in the retelling of the classic show.

Requirements are for one dog to take on the starring pup position as well as other “well-trained, obedient dogs” who will also be featured in the musical.

The “Dog Idol” audition will take place on Sunday, April 28 at 2pm at Patcham Community Centre, Ladies Mile Road, Brighton.

A statement from Brighton Theatre Group said: “It is crucial that your dog is available for rehearsals on a Monday/Tuesday/Sunday in August (depending when called) and is available for show week.”

The show will run at Theatre Royal, Brighton, for eight performances from August 21 to 24.

Tickets are on sale now.
