TODAY we have reported a “behind the scenes” look at the work of one of the city’s most prominent charities.

Martlets Hospice provides a huge range of care for patients, and our reporter Harry Bullmore went to visit them.

His report is on pages 16 and page 17 today.

Often care provided by the charity is for patients in the community and in their own homes.

Examples include staff on hand to help youngsters go to see their favourite films, or helping a grandfather who wants to write about his life experience for his grandchildren.

It is this attention to detail that patients and people really appreciate, but which can so often get overlooked.

Many people face grim prospects such as end of life care with the charity, but regardless of this, staff make it their mission to help people live well and have great days with their loved ones.

The support given to regular art and sculpture trails like Snowdogs and Snailspace is testament to the depth of feeling people have for Martlets.

Many thousands of people support the charity with fundraising efforts every year, and it relies on the goodwill of so many to keep these vital services running.

For those who are not aware of the services on offer, then do check out The Argus report today.

It is a glimpse into the day-to-day running of the charity and underlines the work being done which makes such a huge difference to those affected.
