A SUSSEX MP says it looks like the 'end game' for Theresa May as Prime Minister.

Tim Loughton spoke about the prospect of his Conservative Party leader stepping down.

The East Worthing and Shoreham MP told the BBC it would be a "tragedy" for Theresa May's leadership to end in the way it may do.

The beleaguered Tory leader is expected to meet her party's 1922 Committee tomorrow at 5pm, where she is expected to set the date of her resignation.

Mr Loughton was asked what he knew about the situation on Politics Live.

He said: "We shall see what happens tomorrow, but I think we are coming to the end game.

"I think it has become inevitable. For somebody with a huge sense of public service and huge determination it is a great tragedy that it will end the way it is going to.

"If she can get a deal through, if she can leave having achieved that deal and pass on the baton to somebody else to negotiate, then I think she can leave with her head held high.

"It is a tragedy that it has come to that."

The Worthing MP's comments follow the comments of Crawley Conservative rebel MP Henry Smith.

He has repeatedly called for the Prime Minister to step down.

Parliament will now hold a series of indicative votes tomorrow.
