THE POLICE want to recruit a new senior officer who can help the force respond to crime and keep abreast of changes.

Chief Constable Giles York has put out the invitation for applications for a new Assistant Chief Constable in Sussex.

The role is open to officers from the rank of Superintendent upwards who have completed the Strategic Command Course for the position.

It would pay a salary of up to £113,000, the advert states.

The force is set to benefit from a 14 per cent rise in its part of the council tax, allowing it to recruit hundreds of new officers, PCSOs, investigators, and call handlers.

Mr York says his force has faced a number of "challenges" in recent years, but said he is "proud" of how his team has responded.

He said: "As a result of recent precept uplifts we are facing exciting whilst still challenging times ahead.

"I’d like to hear what you feel you’d bring to the Chief Officer team, how you’ll continue to take Sussex forward nationally and what values you apply to the work you do.

" This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team and make a difference in a fantastic area of the country to work and live.

"If you’re ready to help lead this transformation, motivate and inspire those around you and bring a different perspective to our organisation, this could be the job for you."

Applications close on April 11.
