EMERGENCY services were called to a major house fire.
Eight fire engines from Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, East Grinstead, Turners Hill, Crawley and an aerial ladder support team from Brighton were dispatched to Station Road, Horsted Keynes, near Haywards Heath, at 7.11pm on Tuesday.
Occupants inside the home were evacuated and Sussex Police cordoned off the road so the fire service could carry out their operation.
The blaze was dealt with overnight. Crews used 14 breathing apparatus, three hose reels and six jets, and prevented the fire escalating further.
It is not known at this time what caused the fire.
One fire engine remains at the scene today checking for any hot spots.
A West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "Fire investigations officers will return to the property at 9.30am today to establish how the fire started.
"The occupiers were evacuated and there are no reports of injuries.
"The road is reopened."
