A MAN risked serious injury after climbing onto the stanchions on the underside of the pier.
A Brighton lifeboat was dispatched to Brighton Palace Pier at about 1.30am yesterday after being alerted by a security guard.
A Brighton Lifeboat Station spokeswoman said: “The man was sitting on the stanchions of the pier and we got him down to the lifeboat.
“We received a call from the pier’s security guard.
“It is not known why or how the man got there.
“He was taken to Brighton Marina and handed over to the ambulance service to be treated for minor injuries.
“We returned to the station at about 3.30am.”
A South East Coast Ambulance Service (Secamb) spokesman said: “Ambulance crews were called to the Marina and met the lifeboat.
“The patient was taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton for further assessment and treatment.”
On the same morning, Shoreham Lifeboat was called to assist Sussex Police in rescuing a kitesurfer who had got into difficulty.
