AN ARREST has been made after a fight where a man was reportedly slashed in the neck.

Police and paramedics were called to the library in Seaford on Saturday afternoon.

There was a fracas between men on motorbikes and an older man walking nearby in Clinton Place.

The area was sealed off by police yesterday while detectives launched an investigation.

A worker from a business nearby said he saw the older man pushed away and appearing to have been “slashed in the neck”.

Meanwhile on social media it was also reported that one of the men had used a spirit level to strike the other, and one of the men may have been slashed with a Stanley knife.

A picture from the scene shows a broken yellow spirit level with blood on it.

Police have not confirmed whether a man was slashed with a knife, but say a man has been arrested over the incident.

One witness said: “I looked out and there were younger guys with motorbikes.

"Some sort of confrontation had already started.

“An older man with grey hair suddenly looked like he was pushed away but then I noticed he had been slashed in the neck.

"But it wasn't a knife. It looked like a screwdriver was used or something like that.

"I quickly locked the door."

Meanwhile there were also claims on social media that the men on motorbikes had caused a nuisance and been approached by a man who was then stabbed.

In a statement the police said: “We were called to a fight near to the library in Seaford at 3.40pm, where a person had received minor injuries.

“The investigation is still in its early stages. One person has been arrested and is currently in police custody while further enquiries are conducted in the area.

“If anyone witnessed the incident or has any further information, please call 101 or report the information online.”

The incident has shocked residents in the town. On Facebook one man wrote: “I was watching 24 hours in police custody last night about stabbings in Luton and I thought thank goodness that doesn't happen in Seaford. How wrong I was.”

Residents posted that the incident was "awful" and had happened near a bus stop where passengers were getting off, including children.
