FORTY years of the cult classic Quadrophenia will be celebrated over the August Bank Holiday.

The mod film, which is set in Brighton, will take centre stage this summer to celebrate the anniversary.

Some of the stars, including Trevor Laird, Gary Shail and Leslie Ash, will descend on the Palace Pier for a special screening.

The showing will take place at Horatio’s Bar on the pier on Sunday, August 25, the bank holiday weekend.

The idea came from Gary Shail, who plays Spider in the film.

Gary decided the 40th anniversary of the film should be celebrated and set about organising the “Quadrophenia Experience”.

To celebrate the launch of the anniversary party, some of the original cast descended on Brighton last week for a photo shoot.

Trevor, Leslie and Gary, who starred in the film alongside Sting and Phil Daniels, were pictured on scooters at the Palace Pier where they relived some of the most memorable moments.

They were delighted to be back by the seaside and were mobbed by fans eager to get a glimpse of their heroes.

The film is set in the summer of 1964 and was mainly filmed in Sussex with Eastbourne and Brighton featuring heavily.

Every year hundreds of the film’s “disciples” descend on Brighton to celebrate and pay homage to the mod way of life.

The 1979 release initially received mixed reviews but Quadrophenia went on to enjoy cult status.

It had a soundtrack of songs by The Who and was set amid the real-life drama of mods and rockers fighting on Brighton beach in 1964.

In the film the character Jimmy (Phil Daniels), attempts to escape from his postal job by joining the mods, a gang at loggerheads with their rivals, the rockers.
