A FAST food outlet has reopened its doors to customers.

Wimpy has returned to Station Road in Portslade, in the same spot where it closed more than ten years ago.

Already it has caused a stir of excitement as it competes against the KFC restaurant opposite.

The restaurant is owned by Famous Brands, and general manager Chris Woolfenden said: ““It’s been in the works for a little while.

“The shop is being ripped out at the moment. It’s the exact same building we had before.

“We couldn’t wait to reopen in Portslade, we’ve been looking at it for quite some time and now we are looking forward to being back in the area.”

The arrival also sparked excitement for customers after news that Wimpy intends to serve alcohol. It means people can enjoy a beer with their Bender, the main burger at the restaurant.

One resident said: “Oh my God the thought of Wimpy on Deliveroo is just too much excitement.”

Meanwhile another posted online: “I’m so happy I could cry.”

Wimpy opened its first branch in 1954 in London. It reached its peak in the Seventies with more than 1,000 restaurants across 23 countries. Wimpy was also the first burger chain to offer meat-free burgers, in 1985.

The chain now has fewer than 100 branches in the UK but is going through a resurgence, and also has restaurants in Peacehaven and Worthing.
