A MAN was denied entry to court when security officers thought he had taken drugs.

Ryan Breach had arrived at Brighton Magistrates’ Court for his hearing, and went out for a “cigarette break”.

He was due to face charges of racial harassment and using threatening and abusive words or behaviour likely to cause alarm or distress.

But the “gobby” 29-year-old, who boasts tattoos on his face, was denied entry back into court in Edward Street by security guards.

They said Breach was suddenly “incapable of standing” and couldn’t make it up the stairs.

He shouted abuse and was aggressive to them.

In court, a security guard said: “He has been extremely aggressive and threatening. I think he has taken some sort of substance.

“We tried to carry him down the front stairs, he isn’t capable of walking.

“I think he has taken something while being inside here.

“He has been taken somewhere else. We won’t let him into the building.”

She said Breach would not be let into the building after the outburst.

The court was first alerted to his behaviour when Breach feared he had lost his mobile phone.

He told his defence solicitor Mark Rogers he was going to take a cigarette break.

Mr Rogers told the court that it was “a long cigarette break”.

When it was revealed that his client was not able to stand up, Mr Rogers said he was not aware of any alcohol problems with Breach, and said his client could be “a bit gobby”.

He said: “He is incapable of standing. He was going to enter a guilty plea.”

Mr Stambridge, chairing the hearing, said: “We are going to have to adjourn the case until next week.

“He is clearly incapable of entering the court in a manner that security will accept.”

He kept the bail conditions the same, with Breach told not to enter Queen’s Road or to contact the victim in the case.

Breach, of Stoke Abbott Road, Worthing, will next appear before magistrates on April 11.
