A BREWERY has won a prestigious award for its vegan and gluten-free beer.

Gun Brewery, based in Chiddingly, near Heathfield , won a gold medal in this year’s Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) awards at Liverpool Beer X.

The award was given to Gun for its four per cent Numb Angel lager, which is both vegan and gluten free.

The awards, judged by brewers in a blind tasting panel, see brewers from all over the country gather for their annual conference.

Mark Berry, director at Gun Brewery, said: “Winning gold at SIBA Beer X is a real thrill for us.

“Given the growth in the number of breweries here in the South East – and especially in London –the competition is fierce.

“Being judged by our peers to be brewing the best session lager in the South East, in this true brewers award, is great news.”

Gun Brewery started brewing beer in 2015.

It has a range of six beers, most of which are vegan, and even add seasonal special brews.

Speaking of the Numb Angel lager, Gun Brewery said: “Numb Angel is a vegan, gluten free, four per cent Munich Helles style lager that’s low in bitterness and brewed using Extra Pale, Cara and Munich malts for just a hint of maltiness. We brew it using a traditional bottom fermenting lager yeast and hop it with German Saaz. We also add a small amount of some zesty American hops at the end, just for a little zing. “
