GOOD Friday is staying true to its name this year as it welcomes a new beach bar.

Bison Beer is a bar, bottle shop and brewery based in Brighton and Hove.

It runs a shop and two bars in the city.

Now it is opening its fourth site, where it will be serving beer out of a shipping container by the sea.

The recycled 20ft container, on the land next to Yellowave in Marine Parade, Brighton, will have a new beer bar and a 10ft “cellar” in the form of another container next to it to house the casks and kegs.

Owner Jack Cregan said: “It has come around so quickly and we are really looking forward to it opening.

“It will hopefully develop more of a community feel in that area along the seafront.”

The official launch of the new seaside watering hole takes place on Friday, April 19.

But the Bison crew is opening the bar for a “taster session” this weekend from noon until 10pm today and tomorrow to test the beer.

Jack said: “There will be other new pop-ups starting alongside us this summer with tap takeovers, street food and live music already planned.

“I know there are some horse-box saunas up and running at the moment near our bar.”

The new pop-up is part of the Sea Lanes project, a plan to build an open air swimming pool, shops and food outlets and other sport facilities on the seafront.

Jack said the two have joined forces to encourage people down to the seafront and develop a fun community space for everyone to enjoy.

He said: “I think Sea Lanes approached us because we are local but also to help them put that place on the map, to get people to head to that part of the seafront.

“The new open air swimming pool will be open in 2020 so it’s good to start by giving people a little taster of what to expect. Andy White from Sea Lanes has a lot planned and it’s great to be part of this project.”

Co-owner Nick Vardy said they are open to ideas and suggestions about setting up pop-up food stalls near the bar.

He said: “This sort of set-up is what Brighton is all about – sitting down with a beer and having a chat about business ideas.

“It’s how this one came about really, and we hope to unfold more in the future.”

Bison Beer currently runs a bar and kitchen in North Road, a bar and a bottle shop in Church Road and a bottle shop in East Street.

The new bar sells a range of their own brews, local gins, wine, cider and other non alcoholic beverages.
