TWO teenagers were rushed to hospital after a car smashed into a telegraph pole.

The incident happened on Saturday in Wilson Avenue, Brighton.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 6am on Saturday an Audi A7 crashed into a telegraph pole.

“A 19-year-old man driving the car was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and was bailed for further enquiries.

“Two women, aged 18 and 19, were taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital to be treated for serious but not life threatening or life changing injuries.”

The crash left debris scattered across the road, meaning it had to be closed both ways from between the junctions with Swanborough Drive and Vines Cross Road.

The road was closed for several hours after the incident.

Fire, police and ambulance services attended the scene.

As a result, there was heavy traffic and disruption to travel in the area.

At the time, a Sussex Police spokeswoman confirmed that “it was a single vehicle road traffic collision”.

She added: “The occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospital.”

At about 11am on Saturday Brighton and Hove buses supervisor Rob Carron posted on social media to say that the road had been reopened.
