THE mother of a 12-year-old boy found him dead in his bedroom.

An inquest heard Kelly Warwick, a community care worker, returned home to find her son Mason lying lifeless on the floor in his room.

The youngster, a pupil at Varndean school in Brighton, was described by his parents as the “loveliest, sweetest boy”.

The inquest into his death heard Mrs Warwick returned home to Queen’s Park Road, Brighton, at about 10.45pm on Thursday, March 21, and went to check on her son.

She saw his bedroom light on and called for him but there was no response.

She then found Mason lying lifeless on his bedroom floor with something tied around his neck.

Emergency services were called immediately and paramedics arrived within minutes.

Mason’s parents and the medical crew carried out CPR for some 45 minutes in a desperate attempt to resuscitate the little boy.

He was then taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital at about 11.45pm where there were further attempts to restart his heart.

Despite continued efforts, Mason was pronounced dead at 12.09am on March 22.

Consultant pathologist Andreas Marnerides at St Thomas’s hospital in London carried out the post-mortem and recorded Mason’s provisional cause of death as compression of the neck.

The inquest in Brighton heard Mason’s Daniel Warwick, a builder, was the last person to see him alive.

That was at about 8.30pm when Mason went downstairs to make a cup of tea before going back up to his bedroom.

Coroner for Brighton and Hove Veronica Hamilton-Deeley told the court: “Police enquiries are still ongoing because he is a child.”

She adjourned the inquest until 10.30am on July 17.

Mason’s parents, friends and other relatives spoke to The Argus about the youngster.

His parents said: “He was our amazing special angel.”

Another family member said: “He was the loveliest sweetest boy.

“He was happy-go-lucky, really polite, and loved by everybody.

“You couldn’t ask for a better kid.”

On March 30, Albion fans held a minute of applause in memory of the Mason.

The tribute was announced before kick-off at the Amex stadium at Falmer and fans from both Brighton and Hove Albion and visitors Southampton joined together during the 12th minute.

The cause of Mason’s death has not yet been confirmed, but a fundraising page has been set up for him where it is claimed he took his own life after he was bullied.

The GoFundMe internet fundraising page includes the statement: “As most of you know this beautiful little boy Mason took his own

life on Thursday night due to nasty bullies.

“He was such a loving caring young man with a heart of gold.”
