THE fire brigade was called to The Argus office this afternoon.
Alarms started ringing in the building in Manchester Street, Brighton, at about 2.40pm.
Editors and reporters at the paper, along with students and staff from EC College, promptly and calmly left their desks and walked out.
A fire engine with sirens blaring stopped at the end of the street near the Pier roundabout.
Two firefighters walked into the building to carry out an inspection.
Reporter Harry Bullmore said: “We usually have a false alarm but it kept going as we walked out.
“I couldn’t believe it when a fire engine turned up.”
The Argus understands the fire alarm was accidentally set off.
