HUNDREDS of thousands of athletes and spectators will be swarming to the city and the route cuts through central Brighton.

So the Brighton Marathon will be affecting travel into, out of and around the city.

Several roads will be closed on the Sunday of the main race. These have been split into seven zones.

In Zone 1 roads will be closed between 5.30am and 11.15am. The roads are London Road and Preston Road shut between The Deneway and New England Road, Preston Drove from London Road to Surrenden Road, and Preston Park Avenue between Preston Drove and Stanford Avenue.

Zone 2 roads will be closed between 5.30am and noon. These include the A23 (London Road, Preston Road, York Place, Gloucester Place and Old Steine) between New England Road and Old Steine, Ditchling Road between St Peter’s Place and Union Road, North Road between Gloucester Place and Gardener Street, Jubilee Street between North Road and New Road, Church Street between Jubilee Street and Old Steine, Richmond Place between Gloucester Place and St Peter’s Place and Union Road between Ditchling Road and Lewes Road. Also closed in this zone will be Lewes Road from Melbourne Street to Richmond Place, Franklin Road from Lewes Road to Wellington Road, Wellington Road from Franklin Road to Elm Grove, Elm Grove from Wellington Road to Lewes Road and Grand Parade from Richmond Place to Old Steine.

Zone 3A includes the A259 Marine Parade between Lower Rock Gardens and Roedean Road, and St James’s Street between Old Steine and Lower Rock Gardens. These will be shut between 5.30am and 2.30pm.

Zone 3B is set to be closed between 5.30am and 1.30pm. This includes the A259 Marine Parade between Roedean Road and Nevill Road, and Greenway between the A259 and Ainsworth Avenue.

Zone 4 will be closed from 5.30am to 5pm. This will see a section of the A259, including Marine Parade, Grand Junction Road, Kings Road and Kingsway, between Lower Rock Gardens and Grand Avenue.

Zone 5 will see several roads closed between 6am and 4pm. These are Grand Avenue, from Church Road to Kingsway, the B2066 Church Road, from Grand Avenue to Sackville Street , New Church Road from Sackville Road to Boundary Road, Boundary Road from Franklin Road to Seaford Road, Seaford Road from Boundary Road to St Leonard’s Road and St Leonard’s Road from Seaford Road to New Church Road. As the route heads along Hove seafront roads will be closed in Zone 6. These include the A259 Kingsway between Grand Avenue and Wharf Road, Wharf Road between Kingsway and Basin Road South, the full length of Basin Road South and the Esplanade between Western Esplanade and the Peace Statue. Zone 7 is the Event Village in Madeira Drive, which will close much of the seafront off to cars until it is reopened on Monday.
