Two people have been jailed after a 66-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the neck and chest in his own home in Catford.

The victim, Leroy Junior Edwards, died in hospital on August 18 last year after the brutal attack in Ringstead Road.

News Shopper:

He was knifed several times after an argument with visitors and a large knife was left on the scene.

Two "distant" relatives have now been jailed over his death.

Kerry Donovan, 29, of Pantile Avenue, Southend-on-Sea, was sentenced to life in prison for murder to serve a minimum of 27 years.

Aaron Woolcock, 30, of Lewisham, was sentenced to 14 years in prison for manslaughter.

A neighbour said he heard banging coming from upstairs before he left his flat to find a trail of blood leading to Mr Edward’s door.

Police searched the scene and recovered a driver’s licence and bank cards in the name of Kerry Donovan.

Police said Donovan was a drug user who often visited Mr Edwards and was in financial difficulty.

Witnesses reported seeing the pair leaving the flat after the row.

Detective Sergeant Brian Jones said: "We may never know exactly why Mr Edwards was killed. Whatever the motive, it resulted in the senseless death of a family man of good character in the home where he had lived for over 25 years. His family described him as a quiet, non-confrontational man who liked to be at home.

"Woolcock and Donovan now face the consequences of their actions and I hope their conviction and prison sentence will provide some solace to Mr Edward's family and friends."
