FILM lovers are being offered the chance to stage their own private cinema screenings.

Ourscreen, an “on-demand cinema platform”, has introduced a scheme which gives people the chance to pocket £100 when they host a successful screening at their local cinema.

And as a bonus, their own ticket is free.

Ourscreen allows people to arrange their own film nights at cinemas across the country, including Brighton Odeon.

Now, for the first time, hosts who create these screenings will be rewarded with £100 if their night is a big hit.

This is judged by whether the host is able to sell the minimum number of tickets required for the screening to go ahead.

The number you will need to sell will depend on what film you choose and the date of screening. For example to host a screening of Eighties cult classic The Breakfast Club, on a Friday night at 6pm, you would need to sell 52.

The films do not have to be current. Ourscreen has a rotation of more than 600 films to choose from.

Whether you like the action/comedy of Back To The Future, the sci-fi/horror Alien or the teen hit Clueless, there is a whole host of films at your disposal.

The new incentive is aimed to encourage film fans in Brighton to host regular screenings and provide an opportunity for film clubs to develop across the UK.

David Kapur, co-chief executive of Ourscreen, said: “We’ve been able to see how one person showing their favourite film can snowball into a fantastic film club that brings people back to the cinema over and over again.

“Our offer aims to reward those whose effort makes these screenings happen and have committed to something that brings people together, at a time when we spend too much time alone.

“It might even lead to some new friendships too.”

Initially, the offer applies to all screenings created before April 30.
