A DRUNKEN man tried to ruin a singer’s seafront performance by pouring Stella Artois over his head.

Hundreds of beach revellers were basking in the sunshine and listening to a live performance of the Jason Mraz hit I’m Yours outside Brighton Music Hall.

But the gig took a downward turn when the drunken young man “holding Stellas in each hand” tried to ruin the gig mid-set by emptying the beer over the singer’s head from the balcony above.

The crowds on the beach, who were frustrated the afternoon’s entertainment had been cut short, began to chase the teenager while the singer called police.

A witness said: “The singer was doing Wonderwall-like songs and I think he was performing I’m Yours when it happened.

“The man looked really drunk and was holding Stellas in each hand.

“He poured one of them over the singer and people in the audience started chasing him.”

The singer was performing at the popular Brighton Music Hall in the King’s Road Arches in front of hundreds of eager bank holiday revellers.

The bar’s boss Stephen Simpson said: “We had live music throughout the whole of the weekend and throughout there had been the usual great family fun carnival atmosphere that all of our crowd know and love.

“Unfortunately, one chap had had more than their fill at the end of Monday and tried to interrupt proceedings by pouring some beer on to the performer’s head.

“In true bank holiday pantomime tradition the crowd booed the bad behaviour but our fantastic consummate professional singer was not going to let him win and the festival reconvened forthwith.

“The show must go on.”

Sussex Police are now looking to identify the man, thought to be in his early twenties, after he fled the scene.

A spokesman said: “A musician performing outside Brighton Music Hall in King’s Road Arches had beer thrown over him just before 5.30pm on Easter Monday.

“Police attended the resulting altercation among a group of people, but the offender had run off towards the Odeon cinema and has not been identified.

“He is described as white, aged about 20, 5ft 9in, with black hair and wearing a black shirt and black shorts.

“Anyone with information is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 1055 of 22/04.”
