A MOTHER has opened a plastic-free, all-sustainable toy shop.

Susan Luxford, 42, says Timeless Toys in Portland Road, Hove, is dedicated to providing entirely planet-friendly toys and is the first of its kind in the city.

Susan, who lives in Hove, said: “Everything for sale in this shop is ethical.

“All the toys are plastic-free and made from wood and planet-friendly dyes.

“They do not contain PVC or phthalates used in many plastic toys that can cause hormone disruption.

“I have stocked toys from family run businesses that make the best kind of ethical toys out there.”

Susan said she has done all the research into what toys are most sustainable so families can trust everything in the shop.

She said: “I thought no one is offering a shop that is selling these brands and so I felt eager to set this up.

“I have a three-year-old son, Lukas, and so my interest in the toys available has grown.”

The brands Susan is selling use their profits for helping the environment.

She said: “When you purchase these products, you are helping plant more trees globally and helping more children internationally.

“For example, profits from Goki and Heimess (one of the brands) create new forests in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany’s least wooded state.

“A tree is born for each newborn child.

“By buying these toys you are supporting family-owned small independent brands centred around ethical practices to give back to the community.”

The toys are suitable for babies and children up to the age of eight and appropriate for all genders.

She said: “The best thing about these toys is they are great quality and can be passed down from family to family.

“They are designed to help the child grow, the child can be in complete control of what they do and how they use it, solve problems.”

The shop has received a positive response since opening last Wednesday.

Sharon said: “Adults and children seem to love coming in here.

“I think it will go down well because people here are conscientious about helping the planet.

“Sometimes my display in the window changes when I am not looking.

“Suddenly Joseph is standing on top of Noah’s Ark and I think I didn’t put that there did I? But it’s adorable.”

Sharon is hoping to develop a workshop behind the shop to start hosting classes where children can go and paint their own wooden toys.

The shop used to be home to the Mocha House coffee shop.
