A MUM and daughter have both been jailed for five years after a “nasty” attack on another woman.

Joan Lee and Zoe Lee stamped on the victim after they had met her at a pub in Bognor.

The Lees were with a group of friends in the High Street when they spotted the victim with her own daughter, and invited them to go to a different bar with them in the town centre.

But on the walk, the victim was attacked and left with injuries including a broken ankle.

At Portsmouth Crown Court, the mum and daughter duo were found guilty of inflicting grievous bodily harm after a nine-day trial.

They were each jailed for five years by Judge William Mousley.

A third woman was found not guilty of the charge by the jury.

Prosecutors said the attack happened on January 5, last year in the early evening.

Joan and Zoe could be seen walking in the High Street on CCTV footage. Meanwhile security guards from a nightclub also helped to identify those involved.

Unemployed Joan, 47, and aromatherapist Zoe, 22, denied the attack, but were found guilty last week.

Sussex Police said Joan, of Glamis Street, Bognor, and Zoe, of Orchard Way, Bognor had “stamped on the victim, causing cuts and bruising as well as a broken ankle”.

Charges against three other women were dropped.

Summing up the case at sentencing, Judge William Mousley described how the pair have learned a harsh lesson after they ruined the victim’s life for a period of time, both physically and mentally.

After the case Detective Constable Elaine Keating said: “This was a particularly nasty assault on an unaware victim, causing serious injuries.

“We worked quickly as a team to identify the suspects involved in the case and would like to thank the security staff at the nearby nightclub who provided invaluable information.

“The case was also strengthen when officers arrested Zoe and the clothes she was wearing in the CCTV footage were discovered in her room.

“We welcome the sentence Joan and Zoe have been given and hope this sends out a clear message that we will continue to investigate matters such as this to ensure justice is served.”
