A FATHER and daughter were horrified to see a seagull aggressively gulping down an entire pigeon.

Kuda Madzivanyika was waiting to drop his daughter Tamia at St Bartholemews School in Ann Street, Brighton, when they saw the gull pecking at the dead pigeon.

They were mortified when the gull then swallowed it whole.

Kuda said: “I was in the car with my daughter waiting for her time to get into school and saw the seagull wrestling with the dead pigeon.

“I know seagulls swallow anything from soft food to bones and was interested to see if it would give up on the pigeon.

“Little did I know that it was picking bits off to make it smaller and easier to swallow.”

Kuda took a picture and filmed the incident.

He said: “I did not think it would swallow it because of the size and feathers but as we kept watching it did. I thought it would probably struggle after but no it did not, it just flew off.”

Their sighting comes after flatmates in Hove told of their horror as they watched a seagull outside their window eating a dead pigeon whole.

But wildlife expert Roger Musselle, of Roger’s Wildlife in Woodingdean, said at this time of year it is completely normal behaviour.

The gulls are nesting and therefore become more territorial.

He described the birds as “dustbins for our society”.
