A TEENAGE woman fell to her death after buying a one-way train ticket to Brighton, an inquest heard.

Elizabeth Ralph, 18, travelled by train from her home in Crowborough to spend the morning shopping with friends in the New Year sales.

After saying goodbye, she made her way to the Marina.

Shoppers found her unresponsive at the foot of cliffs moments later.

The first day of her inquest at Brighton Coroner’s Court heard she had battled anorexia since her mid teens and was also diagnosed with Aspergers and a borderline personality disorder.

Police received a 999 call at just before 2pm on January 2.

The caller said he had turned round to see a person falling.

Emergency services said the young woman had dropped 60 feet from the cliff top above the Asda superstore.

Miss Ralph, who was known as Libby, had a mobile phone with her which was too damaged to retrieve any information from, the inquest heard.

The 18-year-old was described as a gentle, loving and artistic young woman who loved dancing and trampolining. Her dream was to become a nurse.

Problems with eating started while she was studying for GCSEs and carried on through her school career.

Dad Graham Ralph said the teenager had left him a touching Christmas gift.

“We texted in the morning about Dr Who,” Mr Ralph said. “None of us had any idea what she was going to do.”

A post mortem examination concluded Miss Ralph had died from head injury. No alcohol or drugs were found in her system.

The inquest continues.
