A DATING event guaranteed to make people sweat is coming to the seafront.

Run For Love will encourage singletons to slip on their trainers and take to Brighton promenade in an alternative attempt to find love.

Event organiser Dom Bignell, 25, said: “The novelty has worn off online dating for many people.

“We are taking things back to basics, creating an environment to meet people which avoids the cringey first conversations of speed dating.”

People will run a 5km route marked out by large, red, inflatable hearts while answering a series of questions such as “love or money” and “night in or night out”.

Dom said: “It’s all part of the match-making process. At various stages of the run each competitor will be asked to express their preference to four simple questions where they will decide what gets their heart racing.”

They will be given an emoji sticker based on their answer and this will allow them to find an exercise partner with similar interests.

Dom also revealed the inspiration behind the run.

He said: “The idea happened because there were a number of different running events cropping up. But we wanted to do something for singles.

“There are obvious links between exercise and love, with exercise causing high levels of serotonin release.” Serotonin is a chemical often called the “happy chemical” due to its contributions to wellbeing and happiness.

Exercise leads to a greater release of the chemical which can have a positive impact on mood.

Dom said: “It will naturally lead to people feeling a bit happier and more confident so people can be their best self while on the date.”

Often called the “runner’s high”, many athletes say they feel elated after taking part in exercise.

The activity causes the body to release endorphins, chemicals which trigger a positive feeling in the body.

After the race there will be a party with food, craft beer, cocktails, a DJ and a live band which will last until 10.30pm.

If the match-making service doesn’t work, Dom said there was a back-up plan

He said: “If the worst comes to the worst, at least people will be on Brighton beach with food, a bar and music.”

After the event, people have the option of keeping the night going with an after party at Pryzm Brighton.

Ticket holders will have complimentary, fast-track entry.
