MANY people were surprised when the Duke of Duchess of Sussex shunned tradition and named their first born baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

But for one man the royal couple’s choice was especially surprising – and he was chuffed.

Archie Harrison could not believe the coincidence when the name announcement popped up on his phone.

The 20-year-old said his mother was the first to message him and check if he had seen it.

But he was then flooded with calls and texts from family and friends who had noticed his newborn namesake.

Archie said: “I was expecting a more traditional name like Henry or Edward, so I couldn’t believe it when I found out.

“They’re giving away free meals at Frankie and Bennie’s to anyone called Archie so that’s my dinner sorted.”

Archie, from Hastings, revealed their names were not the only things linking the unlikely pair.

He said: “My parents live in America so we have got that in common too.”

Archie said he would be playing up to his newly acquired royal title.

He said: “After it was revealed I was in shock to be honest. It doesn’t happen to everyone does it?

“I’ll probably try and make the most of it to be honest.”

The royal baby was born on Monday and made his first public appearance two days later at Windsor Castle.

New mother Meghan described her son as having the “sweetest temperament”, while a doting Prince Harry called him “our own little bundle of joy”.

The duchess then described her son and husband as “the two best guys in the world”.

The royals have given their baby a name familiar to fans of the American Archie comic – which features a main character who has red hair just like the duke.

But they are not using a title for him and he will be simply Master Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

The Duke of Sussex said Archie has giving him a new focus as he wore a jacket declaring “I am daddy” on a visit to the Netherlands yesterday.

Harry spoke to former soldier Dennis van der Stroon, 31, as he took a break from paternity leave to visit The Hague for the one year countdown to the Invictus Games being held there.

Mr van der Stroon said: “Harry talked about how having a small child was his new focus and new goal and I told him how a couple of months ago I was struggling with my mental health but my wife’s pregnancy has given me a goal.”
