MORRISONS’ resident police officer has been defaced in a shocking attack.
The life-sized cardboard bobby, named PC Morrie by staff, has stood guard in the window of the supermarket in St James’s Street, Brighton, for weeks.
But now he is set to retire after being attacked by an unknown vandal brandishing a pen.
PC Morrie was given an eye patch and black teeth.
The vandal scribbled “I heart Phil” on his left arm and drew ear piercings on both his ears.
PC Morrie was one of many “cardboard cops” stationed in Morrisons across the country in a £20,000 plan to deter shoplifters, though it is not yet known whether it is working.
The Morrison’s manager confirmed the Brighton store has “ordered a new one” following the attack.
