THE richest people in Sussex have been revealed.

The Sunday Times Rich List 2019 is the 31st annual survey of the richest people in the country.

The Hinduja brothers, owners of an Indian conglomerate company based in Mumbai, have come out top with a net worth of £20.64 billion.

The list estimates the 1,000 richest people in the UK and is based on land, property, art and shares in companies.

The Sunday Times says it does not include the amount contained in people’s bank accounts.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who was he richest person on last year’s list, saw his net worth drop by £2.9 billion since last year, according to the paper.

Sir Philip Green and his wife Tina were156th on the list, down from 66th last year.

Here are the richest people with connections to Sussex:

Hans Rausing and family

Wealth: £9.606 billion

Hans Rausing, from Wadhurst, is a Swedish businessman who made his fortune after inheriting food packaging company, Tetra Pak.

It is the largest food packaging company in the world.

The 93-year-old sold off his stake in the carton company to his niece and nephew.

Hans Rausing and his wife Märit have donated large sums to charities.

They rank 16th on the country’s rich list.

Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell

Wealth: £750 million

The76-year-old Beatles star owns a property in the East Sussex village of Peasmarsh.

He has been the wealthiest musician on the list for a number of years.

In addition to revenue from concerts, he also receives royalties from decades of music.

The company belonging to third wife Nancy Shevell filed for bankruptcy in March.

Their overall wealth is down £70 million from the previous year.

They rank 191st on the country’s rich list.

Simon Fuller

Wealth: £455 million

Simon Fuller, 58, is a music mogul who grew up in Hastings.

He is the man behind TV Show American Idol.

He owns XIX Entertainment and the company manages the Spice Girls, Andy Murray and David Beckham.

He was given an honorary degree from Brighton University in 2014.

Mr Fuller is 298th on the country’s rich list, £5 million up from last year.
