POLICE and firefighters have rescued a man from a rooftop in Brighton.

Emergency services were called to Duke Street this evening to concerns that a man was stuck on the roof above the Centre for Contemporary Art.

They moved their vehicles into Ship Street which was cordoned off while they brought the man down to safety.

Video footage shows a young man being brought down on a fire engine's aerial ladder platform.

A firefighter at the scene said: "A man found himself up on top of the building next to the church.

"He climbed up and got himself trapped between the wall of the church and the other building.

"He suffered facial injuries.

"He was in a confused state, potentially fdue to alcohol.

"He had been trapped for about an hour and a half."

One diner at nearby restaurant The Ivy in the Lanes said: "He looked very shaken up when he stood up.

"He barely walked. He sort of stumbled a bit.

"Those firemen are amazing, they really are."

Another passer-by said: "I've been waiting here a while to get my car out and the firemen told me there's an injured man on the roof.

"I guess they are just trying to get him down.

"Not sure how he got up there.

"Hopefully he gets down in one piece."

Another man who was having dinner at The Ivy said: "We saw the fire engines pull up and they told us there was a man on the roof.

"I thought it might be a fire in the church but seems to be someone in trouble."
