A WOMAN has died after a hit and run crash.

Officers and paramedics were called to the junction of the A29 Stane Street and the B2133 Adversane Lane near Billingshurst.

It is understood that a Ford Fiesta left the road and hit bollards at 10.40am, near the Blacksmith's Arms pub.

A woman who was one of three occupants in the car, and died at the scene.

Police closed the road to begin an investigation, after it was reported two men, also in the car, had gone on the run.

Residents reported seeing the police helicopter and ambulances attending, and diversions are in place.

Two men were later arrested in Billingshurst on suspicion of road traffic offences.

Police said: "We are investigating a collision at the junction of the A29 Stane Street and B2133 Adversane Lane, near the Blacksmith’s Arms public house in which a woman sadly died.

"The incident happened at around 10.40am on Friday when a Ford Fiesta left the road and struck concrete bollards.

"The woman was one of three occupants in the car. Two others, both men, were subsequently arrested in Billingshurst on suspicion of driving offences.

"Local road closures remain in place while investigations continue and motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes."
