A FIRE broke out in a 40ft gas cylinder container.
The fire service urged people to keep their windows and doors firmly closed as firefighters tackled the blaze at the Oval Race Track in Angmering at about 11.30am.
Four water pumps from East Preston and Worthing tackling the blaze in Water Lane.
In a statement, West Sussex Fire and Rescue told the public: “Please avoid the area if possible and residents are urged to keep windows and doors closed.”
The fire was under control by 12.18pm.
A number of firefighters remained at the scene for a short while after as a precaution.
Angmering Raceway is the only banked oval race circuit in the country and it has hosted racing for more than 30 years.
