A SERIOUS accident has closed the A26 both ways this evening.

Police are appealing for witnesses after three vehicles crashed at Beddingham near Lewes.

Emergency services were called at 7.38pm and an air ambulance has been reported in the area.

The incident was still ongoing at 9.26pm, police said.

A traffic report updated at 9.23pm states: "A26 New Road both ways closed queueing traffic, delays due to serious accident between A27 (Beddingham Roundabout, Beddingham) and B2109 Drove Road (Newhaven).

"Police have closed the road for an accident before the Southease Station turn off. There has been an air ambulance on scene. Three cars involved."

Anyone who saw the crash is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number 1286 or Operation Hersden.
