POLICE are investigating a ‘possible fight’ at Brighton Palace Pier.

Emergency services attended the scene on Saturday night.

An image shows four police cars, an ambulance car and an ambulance parked in the road by the pier.

Officers cordoned off an area to the west of the pier with police tape.

The Argus:

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “We were called to an incident at Brighton Palace Pier at 8.14pm.

“Police have attended and are investigating a possible fight at this location.”

Ahead of the weekend, Sussex Police issued a warning to people in Brighton and Hove to say there would be an increased police presence in the city during the weekend.

Officers had their leave and rest days cancelled and additional officers from other forces including Surrey and Lancashire.

Before the weekend, assistant chief constable Nev Kemp, who led policing operations for both Surrey and Sussex during this period, said: “We want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable time during this period.

“Residents and visitors should be in no doubt that any antisocial behaviour or criminal activity will not be tolerated and any reports will be dealt with swiftly.”

The Argus:

Police expected the weekend to be “exceptionally busy” as thousands of people were drawn to the South Coast for a series of international events.

These included the Hells Angel Motorcycle Club Euro Run, the Lionesses taking on New Zealand at the Amex and Kemp Town Carnival, which all took place on Saturday.

It was also the final weekend of the Brighton Fringe.
